Santa Comes to the Shores

Santa will be in Redwood Shores to greet everyone on December 9th from 1-3PM, so come out with your family to the Redwood Shores Library and meet Santa!

Bring your cameras to capture magical moments of your children on Santa’s lap while sharing their requests. Mingle with your neighbors, enjoy cookies and candy canes, hum along to the Christmas Carols played on the piano, and enjoy a crafts project with the Library staff while waiting your turn to see Santa.

Carlmont High School Presents Hay Fever

Noel Coward’s hilarious comedy is presented tonight and tomorrow afternooon, performed by Carlmont High School’s talented theater students.

This hilarious play deals with the four eccentric members of the Bliss family and their outlandish behavior when they each invite a guest to spend the weekend at their English country house.

Halloween in the Shores

The annual spooky walk takes place in our haunted Marlin Park! Bring your children in their Halloween costumes to the park this Saturday and join in the fun!

Halloween Parade — 1PM to 2PM

RSCA volunteers will have treats for the little ones, so bring a goodie bag/bucket! And parents, don’t forget your cameras for photo opportunities with the Good Witch.

Come Meet with RWC’s Chief of Police

Redwood City Police Chief J.R. Gamez will be hosting his fourth Town Hall-style community meetings, each held in a different area of the City. These meetings are an opportunity for people to participate along with their neighbors to discuss issues which may be of importance to that specific area. Three previous town hall meetings with the Chief were held in May and June in other neighborhoods of Redwood City.

“These gatherings are an important way for residents and police to create partnerships, to learn from one another, and to build trusting, cooperative relationships that are the very foundation of a strong, safe community,” says Chief Gamez.” We can only do this if we talk to each other, and that’s what these Town Hall meetings are all about.”

This meeting offers the chance for Shores residents to meet the Chief and his command staff, to create connections between the community and the Police Department, to exchange information, and to engage in small-group discussions around neighborhood issues. From these Town Hall meetings, the Chief and his staff also gain the community’s perspectives and concerns on law enforcement and related issues for each area. The meetings are facilitated by the collaborative group Redwood City 2020, working with Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center.

Join us this coming Tuesday evening, October 9th, 7:00pm.

Here’s a great opportunity to clean house! Take advantage of this free event and dispose of your outdated electronic equipment properly & safely. Bring your old stuff to us and receive a charitable donation (tax) receipt!

RSCA — collaborating with Goodwill Industries — will accept for recycling old computers (hard drives are 3X erased & shredded for security), monitors, routers, and other consumer electronics including TVs, stereos, telephones, cell phones/PDAs etc.

During this 4-hour event, there’s no charge to bring small appliances, kitchenware, men’s, women’s and children’s clothing & accessories, shoes, bed and bath linens, bicycles, jewelry, books, and more.

RSCA Announces Annual Levee Cleanup

For over 15 years each end of August, the Redwood Shores Community Association (RSCA) has sponsored the Annual Levee Cleanup.

The Shores Levee Cleanup day is a fun community event. To benefit the environment, RSCA helps beautify seven miles of levee surrounding Redwood Shores. Volunteers are assembled into teams and assigned cleanup areas. Kids and parents, adults and seniors are all welcome and encouraged to get involved in this worthwhile event. Family work groups handle their areas at their own pace; all help to keep these bountiful nature trails debris-free.

Time: 8:00 am til Noon

Place: Mariner Park, Redwood Shores, CA 94065

Starters: Coffee, juice and bagels served at 8:30 am

Lunch: Barbeque for all hands at noon

Crews: Qualifies as 4-hours of Community Service

This is a great opportunity for Redwood City residents (and their friends) to enjoy a beautiful summer morning while experiencing a variety of birds and other wildlife. Volunteer and enjoy the splendor of our seven miles of shoreline, including incredible views of the bay.

Please join us; bring gloves and wear good walking shoes… all pickup tools and trash bags will be provided. Take pride in enhancing this important Redwood City resource, and join us Saturday, August 25, 8am to noon.

Lunch is on us! As a small ‘thank you’ to our volunteers, a barbecue is sponsored by our friends at the San Mateo Credit Union for all hands. Barbeque is served at noon at Mariner Park.

Recology Systems Inc. provides the trash collector containers, and their assistance is gratefully acknowledged. Each year large amounts of trash are picked from the Redwood Shores Levee environment by our volunteers and removed by Recology Systems free of charge. Every piece of trash that is eliminated is important!

This year’s cleanup is dedicated to the esteemed Pete Hughes, to acknowledge his faithful community leadership. Pete organized this valued community initiative from the beginning and gained the continuing support of civic, business and community leaders who support this public effort with their time and resources.

Sounds of the Shores 2012

The final encore has played and the Sounds of the Shores concert series has once again come to a close. RSCA would like to thank everybody for coming out to enjoy music in the park this summer, and hope to do it all again next year. Also, a big thank-you to all the bands who brought great music to Redwood Shores. Thank you for your support, you’ve been a great audience — good night!

Music will ring out once again in Marlin Park as part of the 2012 Sounds of the Shores summer concert series! The Redwood Shores Community Association is proud to invite residents to enjoy music in beautiful Marlin Park with friends and family. Three bands will be playing in this year’s Sounds of the Shores, bringing a variety of rock, soul and country to music fans. Feel free to take along a lounge chair or blanket, a basket of snacks, and your dancing shoes!

JUNE 24: Stealing 3rd (rock & roll) – Formed in 2007 by Nieves and Muldoon, Stealing 3rd is known for engaging audiences; Nieves serves as lead singer and Master of Ceremonies. Excellent musicianship combines with fun and energetic dance music to make Stealing 3rd more than a band — it’s a party waiting to happen!

JULY 22: Jokers and Thieves (rock/soul) – Jokers & Thieves is a fun and talented band that delivers great music and entertainment for all to behold. Jokers & Thieves has been playing together for about four years in various shapes and sizes. They play melodic originals on their self-titled debut CD, Jokers & Thieves, and play clubs/events all over the greater San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the soul and funk dance grooves that keep people jumping, Jokers & Thieves also plays the new popular radio songs that fans recognize and enjoy.

AUGUST 12: Bell Brothers (country) — Northern California’s top Country Rock band, The Bell Brothers, deliver a contagious and high-energy performance with their strong vocal harmonies and their rock solid musicianship. Since forming in 2005, The Bell Brothers have climbed to the top of California’s Country Music Scene, building a solid reputation as one of the area’s most in-demand live acts. When it comes to performing live, The Bell Brothers have earned encores from enthusiastic audiences while sharing the stage with such respected and popular country artists as Rascal Flatts, Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, the legendary Roy Clark and numerous others. Contagious, high-energy crossover appealing performances, coupled with gifted musicianship and vocals has made The Bell Brothers the band of choice for many local venues in Northern California.

Marlin Park Playground Has Re-Opened!

It’s finally time again to play in the park! Redwood Shores’ Marlin Park has been under construction for a few weeks, but at last it is finished and ready to be opened to the public.

The all-new Marlin Park playground had its grand re-opening on Saturday August 4th, where residents were able to celebrate the renovation of Redwood Shores’ central park and be amongst the first to enjoy the new playground and facilities.

Marlin Park’s playground is now open for play, so come on out and see what’s new to do.

Sounds of the Shores 2012: Rock/Soul/Funk — Jokers & Thieves

The party keeps on kicking! The 2012 Sounds of the Shores concert series continues Sunday, July 22th with a performance by Jokers & Thieves — a band that brings rock & roll with a touch of soul. The event runs from 5:00 – 7:00pm in Marlin Park, and is free to all residents.

Everybody who was there for the Sounds of the Shores last year knows what a fun time it is on the green here in our Shores, and this year, it’s even easier to make a night of it since top-quality food services will be offering dinner and snacks at affordable prices during performances. This Sunday is Bar-B-Que night, with Capelo’s Hill Country Barbecue once again offering everything from hot dogs & sliders to full BBQ plates & ribs.
